Advanced Trading

There are certain tools available within L2 that enable you to place trades faster and with fewer clicks. Some of these should also make placing, amending and cancelling trades far easier.

Ladder Dealing

Ladder Dealing allows you to put a Limit order into the market in just a couple of clicks.

To enable Ladder Dealing right-click on the L2 screen. You will see a menu item that allows you to enable Ladder Dealing and also amend some of the available options related to this function.

Once this option is switched on you will see a size box appear above the touch strip of the L2 screen. By entering the number of shares you wish to trade, the ladder icons on either side will become active. Clicking on these will open the ladders themselves.

The blue ladder - place a buy order
The red ladder - place a sell order

The ladder will display a series of price levels which can be scrolled through using the spin control on your mouse or by clicking on the up and down arrows displayed at either end of the ladder. By clicking once on any price level, a Limit Day order will be created in the size you have chosen. You will initially be presented with a confirmation ticket however this can be disabled from the right-click menu if you prefer.

Parent Orders

If you know that you want to trade a certain amount of a stock throughout the course of the day but you do not want this to go into the market as one order then Parent orders are a very easy way to manage this and ensure one line of stock is booked to your account at the end of the day.

Once you have opened a Deal Ticket, simply tick the 'Target Size' box to enable the target size entry field.

By entering a size in here and clicking Proceed, an order will be entered to the trade book for your target size but nothing will be sent to market. You can then add wave orders to this parent from the trade book by clicking on the icon. This will then send an order to the market which will be filled as normal. However nothing will be booked to your account until the entire Parent Order is completed or the remainder deleted. You can also choose to send a Parent Order as well as the first wave at the same time by filling out the size and price box on the original Deal Ticket.
